EXPLORING THE JAMAICAN AND CARIBBEAN CUISINE: THE JERK SHACK!
Wow! Over 100 views on my first
post!! Thank you guys so so much, wasn’t expecting that to be honest. Maybe I was,
since I had to ask some friends to help put out the word for me. So back to my
foodie escapades. Has anyone heard the rave about JerkShack? So my friend and I
decided to give it a try! (Yes I have a lot of foodie friends) We looked
forward to exploring the new Jamaican and Caribbean Restaurant in town, I
remember sending my friend an Instant Message (IM) a night before to help me
pick out a dress for our Supposed ‘Lunch Date’ (you know us girls now).
Anyway! I shouldn’t bore you with all that, let’s get to business!!
We got into the restaurant, which
is located at 16 Bangui Street, Wuse, Abuja and it was
quite full I must say, probably because it was a public holiday period, we were received
warmly by the waitresses and even the Manager (I thought to myself WOW!) Looking at their menu, we were considering having
their Coco bread as a starter as we were extra hungry, they didn’t have that (and
at this point I’m like WTF -- not another restaurant that doesn’t have items
off their menu), we didn’t even get any appetizers. I had the Signature Oxtail
and Butter beans served with rice while my friend ordered Brown stew with
Chicken and rice. Our meals took about 35 minutes to arrive, I would say maybe partly due to the public holiday period and the crowd that was present. Also, my friend mentioned that there wasn't much Jamaican vibe in their decor, and I have to agree with her.
I think their portion
sizes are really small, although I enjoyed the tenderness of my Oxtail. I must
say that the oxtail was quite tasty, I won’t lie, can’t say the same for my
friend (LOL) the Brown Stew was barely enough as a side for the tiny rice they
served.
I found it ridiculous that we had
to pay for the main course and side dish (not Extra I must add) separately as
against combining the price on their menu, their meals are quite pricey for the
tiny portions we were served. To be honest, throughout all my restaurant waka
in Abuja, I haven’t seen where I have to pay for main course and side dish
separately (like where is that done? If you know of anywhere else that does
that, please let me know), I mean except I want an extra portion of the
complimentary side dish that comes with the main course, then I can understand.
My review of The Jerk Shack;
Ambience: 6/10
Service: 4.5/10
Price: 5/10
Food: 5/10 (Tiny Tiny Rice Portions!! Excuse me please, we are Nigerians, duh!!!)
